Dr. EDUARDO S. CAILLO
"6th President", EARIST

The empty seat for EARIST Presidency for quite
awhile in 2006 brought about numerous changes and challenges in school
leadership while waiting for the next President that will be elected by
the Board of Trustees. Apparently, this long wait came to an end in
November 08 when Dr. Eduardo S. Caillo took his oath of office as
EARIST's 6th President after the rigorous search that he went through.
Driven by his innate acumen and strong desire to
see excellence in Science and Technology education, Dr. Caillo who has
loved this field at his young age pursued the call to excellence and
service. His rallying passion to advance excellent Science and
Technology education in EARIST wells up from his own personal
experiences as an inventor, specialist in Industrial Technology
education and President of a Science and Technology Institute in
Calbayog City.
Dr. Caillo who was born into the family of Mr.
Fernando Barrote Caillo and Mrs. Pastora Sia Superio in May 18, 1957 is
one of the great sons of Tacloban, Leyte. He is happily married to
Ma'am Sol, an educator like him who bore him to jewels, Aika and Aiko.
He finished his degree in Doctor of Philosophy in Education in 1994 at
Leyte Institute of Technology. He obtained his Master's degree in
Technician Education major in Mechanical Technology under a scholarship
program and Foreign Technical Graduate course in Machine Tools and
Computer by the Authorization Committee of Nagano Prefecture.
He is an example of the proverbial statement "he
rose from the rank." His journey started from a modest beginning in the
province as a secondary school teacher in 1978 to becoming an
instructor, department head, dean and then President of Tiburcio
Tancinco Memorial Institute of Science and Technology, Calbayog City in
2001. The race for bigger responsibility continued as he carves a niche
for his name now no longer in the province but in EARIST. Other
distinguished achievement that Dr. Caillo has is his being honored as
one of the highly acclaimed inventors of this country. Two of his useful
inventions are the Rice Bran Refining Machine in 1995 and the Organic
Fertilizer Siever/Bagger Machine in 1994. He was also recognized as Most
Outstanding Regional Inventor in 1993.
Dr. Eduardo S. Caillo, who is equipped with
outstanding education, training, experience, expertise and most
important of all passion for excellence in Science and Technology,
envisions EARIST to become a dynamic institution for excellence in
Science and Technology and allied courses. This, he hopes to achieve by
offering strong and relevant programs, creating employment and
livelihood opportunities, conducting trainings, seminars and workshops,
initiating technology transfer from existing government and
non-government agencies/ entities, local and abroad and showcasing
technologies that will promote and enhance commercial and industrial
activities in the community.
Likewise, his leadership will spearhead Scientific
Manpower Development by promoting creativeness, strengthening scientific
research, upgrading the schools instructional laboratories for
different subject areas such as physics, chemistry, and biology and by
providing modern laboratory facilities for professional scientific and
technological research studies. He will also tap on networking with
existing research institutions, both here and abroad, integrate science
and technology in all aspects of the curriculum development, programs
and courses and create linkages with public and private agencies,
industries, foreign embassies, foundation and research institutions for
infrastructure expansion and for scientific and technological research.
Eventually, to top it all, Dr. Caillo believes that
EARIST when it is ready will be converted into a State University.
Two months after Dr. Caillo assumed the headship of
this institution, he has already started to make a statement about
himself through the projects that were completed both here and in Cavite
campus. Here is a man of his word, a man who is goal-directed and
output oriented. Ladies and gentlemen, Dr. Eduardo S. Caillo.
